it was as though your mind had told your soul to die, to die in that wintry lake we stumbled upon. the lake pulled you to the bottom with the dark weeds frozen in a stupor that mimics your body now. the warm, sweet blood in your veins began to ice and as you looked up through the bitter water and the thick ice i looked down at you, smiling. and for the first time you were happy. i walked away from that lake knowing your soul disappeared, that you disappeared to me. i remember the smell of your neck, the way your eyelashes fluttered when looked out at the sea, your supernova eyes, and keep them in an envelope in the pocket near my heart. and i wait for you to swim from the bottom of the icy lake, perhaps in spring when the birds sing again, and your skin will dry slowly in the sun and you will kiss my forehead and i will feel your hot breath on my skin and for the summer you will be mine.
